Today I'm sharing with you a refreshing twist on the classic Italian cocktail recipe: the limoncello spritz, also known as the Sorrento or Amalfi spritz.

Make the Amalfi spritz even more special by making your own Limoncello-it's surprisingly simple and adds an authentic touch. After all, the best Amalfi Spritz recipe starts with the best ingredients. And if you're after something non-alcoholic, you'll love my Aperol spritz mocktail, which delivers all the flavor of the classic without the alcohol.

This drink was born on the stunning Amalfi and Sorrento coasts and what makes this cocktail stand out from the classic spritz is the addition of Limoncello liqueur. Its vibrant golden-yellow color instantly lifts your mood, while the citrus flavor and sparkling finish make it the ultimate summer cocktail. It's light, zesty, and perfect for aperitivo hour or any warm afternoon gathering.

What to serve with Amalfi spritz

When it comes to choose the perfect summer cocktail, the Amalfi limoncello spritz is a clear winner. Its bright, zesty flavor makes it a fantastic choice for any occasion, from Sunday brunch or a fun girls' night to a relaxed backyard gathering.

I love serving this refreshing drink with a few small, savory bites to open up the palate before the main meal. My go-to pairings are all about complementing the Limoncello spritz's sweet and citrusy notes.

My favorites food to serve with the Sorrento's limoncello spritz are:

  • Castelvetrano olives- These are my absolute must-have! Their buttery texture and slightly sweet flavor are a match made in heaven for this cocktail. They are the best olives for aperitivo and are always a huge hit.
  • Charcuterie and cheese Board: You can never go wrong with this classic. A beautiful board with cheeses and cured meats is always a win-win.
  • Focaccia and fried bread dough: I love serving something warm as freshly baked focaccia, with its pillowy-soft inside and perfectly crunchy crust . For an extra treat, serve some crispy fried bread dough (coccoli). They're fantastic for pairing with cured meats, scooping up cheese, or just enjoying all by themselves.
  • Roasted rosemary nuts: These can't be missed. I love to make my own by buying a mix of nuts, tossing them in a pan with some fresh rosemary, and roasting them until they're slightly golden. A few pinches of salt right before serving makes them absolutely irresistible.

How to make Amalfi spritz with limoncello

The beauty of this Amalfi spritz cocktail recipe is that it doesn't require you to be a professional mixologist-it's quick and easy. Like any true spritz, the amalfi cocktail follows the classic 3-2-1 rule.

So what is in it? Only 3 ingredients: limoncello, prosecco and soda water. All you need to do is pour the liquids straight into the glass, give it a quick stir and serve it. No fancy tools-just a liquid measure and a glass. Easy peasy.

  1. Step 1: Fill a glass with ice. Add the limoncello, pouring it directly over the ice.

Top Tip

Chill your ingredients: This is non-negotiable! Make sure your Limoncello, Prosecco, and even your soda water are all well-chilled before you start mixing. A cold drink stays fizzy and refreshing for longer.

Use chilled glasses: Go a step further and pop your glasses in the freezer for 10 minutes before serving. A frosty glass keeps the drink colder and prevents the ice from melting too quickly.

Buy the right prosecco: The key is to buy a dry Prosecco. Look for bottles labeled "Brut" or "Extra Brut." While "Extra Dry" might sound like a good choice, but it actually means slightly sweeter. A dry Prosecco will balance the sweetness of the Sorrento's Limoncello spritz.

Plain soda water: Use a plain soda water with no added flavors. You want the citrusy notes of the Limoncello to be the star, and a flavored soda could ruin the Sorrento spritz.

Use quality limoncello: Since Limoncello is the main ingredient, its quality makes all the difference. While a good store-bought brand will work well, the very best is to make your own Limoncello.
