About Federica Melania Orsini

I'm Federica Melania Orsini - an Italian recipe developer, food photographer, food stylist, and founder of Fede The Clumsy Chef, based in Bologna, in the heart of Italy's Food Valley.

I was born and raised in Italy, and shortly after university, I moved to London. It was there that I truly opened my eyes to different food cultures, discovering new flavors, ingredients, and new ways of cooking. During my time in London, I cooked and planned healthy Italian meals for children and families.

After nearly 14 years, my husband and I decided to move back to Italy to be closer to our families. Today, I develop and share authentic Italian recipes designed for real home cooks.

Growing up, food was always at the centre of my life. My mum's family owns restaurants in the Roman countryside, and as a child, I spent countless Sunday mornings in the kitchen watching my nonna, my mum, and my uncle cook. My mum and dad are both incredible cooks with a deep understanding and respect for food. Whenever I was given the opportunity, I would help them to prepare delicious recipes, learning tips, techniques, and stories along the way.

I was fascinated by the transformation of simple, raw ingredients into something beautiful and full of flavor. That's where my passion for traditional Italian food truly began.

Over time, that passion grew into something more, and led me to create Fede The Clumsy Chef- a space where I share authentic Italian recipes designed for real home cooking and to be enjoyed with the people you love.

Fun Facts About Federica

• I studied Fashion Design at the University of Urbino, where I also met the love of my life.
• I love going to the cinema, theatre, and visiting exhibitions.
• You'll often find me wandering through food markets looking for fresh, seasonal ingredients. As well as in restaurants.  
• I don't have a favourite season - I love them all, because each one brings something unique to the table.
• My favourite dishes are Rigatoni with sausage sauce and bucatini all'amatriciana -- simple, comforting examples of Italian home cooking.
• I love art, antiques markets, and collecting old plates, teacups, and linen tablecloths.
• I dream of a country house with a garden full of flowers, hens, and rabbits. And of course, with kids.
• I love English country house style.
• I enjoy listening to jazz while cooking and hosting friends and family for long lunches and dinners.
• I'm drawn to countryside living, English country house style, and flowers like roses, peonies, and dahlias.
• I love traveling and dream of visiting Jordan, Japan, and Cuba one day.
• One day, I hope to live in a country house surrounded by nature, with a garden full of flowers, a few hens and rabbits, and a home always open to family and friends.
